SDLP Youth Contests for VP of the Young European Socialists

As proud members of the Young European Socialists and committed to internationalism, SDLP Youth is excited to announce that we are running a candidate for one of the Vice-Presidency positions for the Young European Socialists.

SDLP Youth is delighted to confirm that our candidate is our North-South Officer and the International Secretary of the SDLP, Leah Rea.

We believe that through Leah’s candidacy, we illustrate our commitment to social democratic and labour values, as well as ensuring our belief and role in internationalism so espoused by our former Leader John Hume is continued.

Through her years of service, Leah has proven herself as a committed and principled activist, particularly on matters of human rights and equality, and a staunch advocate for social justice. We know Leah as a passionate Internationalist who promotes the values of social democracy, labour, and solidarity at every opportunity. She has strong experience in engagement and representation including in Europe through her ongoing service as International Secretary and she will work hard to represent the Young European Socialists and its member organisations.

Leah is contesting to serve as a VP for the Young European Socialists at a time of the continued mobilisation of the far-right and extremism across Europe, and when human rights especially of minority groups are threatened. She wants to see the Young European Socialists build upon its work in addressing the growth of the far-right through empowerment of member organisations to advance the cause of social democracy and labour across Europe.

Ní neart go cur le chéile - there is no strength without unity, and a strong Young European Socialists organisation is required to promote the cause of social democracy and labour across Europe. We know that Leah will bring her experience, commitment, and values to the Young European Socialists and work to achieve a strong organisation.

We are delighted and grateful to have the support of Labour Youth for Leah’s candidacy.

We would like to wish our friends and comrades in JUSOS (Young Socialists in the SPD), SJÖ (Socialist Youth Austria); and Jongsocialisten (Young Socialists) good luck in the campaigns of their great candidates, whom we are excited to support.

We wish Leah the best of luck in her campaign and we hope that our fellow member organisations will support her candidacy.

We hope to be able to provide some campaign updates in the coming weeks, so make sure to follow our website.
